Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties.
It includes:
emphysema – damage to the air sacs in the lungs
chronic bronchitis – long-term inflammation of the airways
COPD is a common condition that mainly affects middle-aged or older adults who smoke.
The breathing problems tend to get gradually worse over time and can limit your normal activities, although treatment can help keep the condition under control.
COPD Checks
These are carried out by the Practice Nurses and our practice Pharmacist who will be able to arrange lung assessment tests for you, and give you advice about your medication and inhalers.
When booking your appointment, please let the reception staff know that you are booking for an COPD check so that they can arrange the correct length of appointment.
If you are on medication or using inhalers for COPD you should attend for yearly check ups and the Pharmacist or Nurse will advise you when to book your next appointment.
