It is a requirement of the Health and Social care act (2008) Code of practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance that the Infection control lead produces an annual statement with regard to compliance with good practice on infection prevention and control.
The statement will include;
- Review of last year’s audit
- Any infection transmission incidents and any action taken ( Already identified as a significant event)
- Details of any infection control audits undertaken and any follow up required
- Details of any Risk assessments undertaken and following actions.
- Details of all staff training.
- Review or update of any policies, procedure and guidance.
Infection control audit 2023
Previous infection control audits highlighted a few small areas relating to the use of alcohol hand gel, the displaying of handwashing instruction in clinical areas and staff training, these areas have all been addressed and acted upon in the last year. Wall mounted hand sanitisers are now available in the waiting area and in the main corridor. All soap and alcohol gel dispensers now have handwashing instructions on. Some repairs have been made to flooring breaks in treatment room 9 and 2 of the consulting rooms.

Infection transmission incidents (significant events)
All significant events are logged by the practice managed and discussed in an SEA meeting. All events are investigated in detail to see if any changes or improvements to practice are required.
A case of urinary sepsis was reviewed
All cases of Clostridium difficile continue to be investigated with the infection control nurse and RCA performed.
